| I am heading up to Seattle for the weekend before the Hot Snakes Show on the 2nd, I've never been to Seattle before and not familiar with the area. Anyone have any suggestions for record stores, eateries or brew pubs to check out while I am in town? |

record stores:
bop street (ballard)
sonic boom (ballard)
jive time (fremont)
breweries:
maritime (ballard)
elysian (capitol hill)
but you'll find good beer at most bars.
for partying, have fun in capitol hill (cha cha lounge, comet tavern, linda's); ballard (sunset tavern, the tin hat, the dray) -- stay away from pioneer square and belltown.
the moe bar (next to neumos where the hot snakes are playing) is pretty neato too.
have fun! |

| Sonic Boom and Easy Street are both good record stores. Paseo makes some mighty fine cuban sandwiches. Good beer seems to flow through the city like a river. Have a good time. |

Yeah...wassup...supposedly shit hot show...but only 2 youtube clips, no mention of setlist? No audio uploaded? Anybody actually go to this sold out gig? Did you guys get to hear US Mint? I read a review that the band shredded and that Mark Arm among others was in attendance.
What cracks me up about that is that I was way into Mudhoney and all things Seattle back in 89-90 and when Jehu did a radio interview in SF they were dissing the Seattle scene and even the SF scene...making tons of obnoxious comments about how overrated it was compared to the San Diego scene. I was horrified!! I wanted to go and beat them with my flannel and ask them to repent and recant their sinful words!! I was so angered I called in the DJ to see if he was as pissed off as I was. He wasn't...he thought they were hillarious and that I should take a chill pill.
Within a week I was hooked on the Reis/Froberg duo sound and realized they had every right to be cocky, even though they angered me at the time. Jehu and later Hot Snakes immediately entered the top 5 of my favorite bands ever.
Anyhow, did they have had their night in Seattle with Mark Arm himself banging his head in their honor, while most Seattle bands have all packed it in and bought donut franchises, OR what??!! I wanna hear how it went down. And again---please tell me sombody took a night off from the orgy of the pit and taped the show?...I have a friend who tapes "IN_THE_PIT" at Thee Oh Sees shows. In his view, the shakier the camera work, the better the watch later. He give new meaning to "that's one sick video". -Tashi. |

he's a big fan of hot snakes/obits. he's been at every obits show in seattle. (technically he's their employer, right? (sub pop)) and the last time i saw butthoney most of the 'audit in progress' album was played during a set change. |

I was at the show, drove from Vancouver. Can be summed up in one word... Amazing.
Setlist was something like this. I think all the songs are correct but the order is definitely off (and yes, they were playing a lot of songs in the same order as the albums)
I Hate The Kids
Gar Forgets His Insulin
XOX
Who Died
LAX
Suicide Invoice
If Credit's What Matters, I'll Take Credit
Automatic Midnight
No Hands
10th Planet
Past Lives
Light Up The Stars
Braintrust
Hi-Lites
Retrofit
Time To Escape
Think About Carbs
This Mystic Decade
Kreative Kontrol
Plenty For All
Spent the entire time front and center. Bruised like crazy, ears still ringing 3 nights later, absolutely worth it. An all time favorite show. |

Thanks!! I got my US Mint fix last night at Casbah and the crowd thinned during the encore--surprisingly--so I walked right up with my camera, almost awkwardly close (for my taste with a camera), but I crossed universes and saw planets born==>without acid...only the Reis/Froberg working++Gar administering the IV-Drip of bass-drugs and then primal pounding of the "Shamen" (Jason)...they perfectly shattered time and space...head started bobbing, camera bobbing, probably lost focus and didn't care...I wasn't really holding it anymore--it was just there attatched to my lifeless arm!
Still, the Troubadour was a bit more "unhinged"--both band and crowd, so even with the Mint not played in LA, Trouby was the best by my measure. I will share up the DVD's of all when mixed down...I have separate digial audios to matrix to two cams...a steady shot and my zooming version that was hand held, plus all youtubes I deem decent, which is most of them. It may be a couple of weeks but then you can watch Trouby, Casbah 1, Casbah 2 and see for yourself.
Of course somebody just posted the complete or near complete Alex's and I have a tentative setup for a trade on the entire Blank Club video. I was excited about the prospect of having a Vid or Audio of a quarter of the shows, but counting Portland audio, we will have "complete show documents" of 6 out of 8 shows if they starve us out for 5 years again. I am so grateful for all other tapers out there...it's a pain, but this is one band that has been bootlegged since the first show and never disappoint. I am in heaven! -Tashi. |
